Work
Work is a new, devised piece of theatre presented through the 2017 Cohen New Works Festival through The Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas at Austin. Work explores the humanity behind the labor that keeps the University's facilities operating and maintained. Through a movement-based experience, the audience explores the real-life stories of custodial and maintenance staff on the UT campus.
I originally conceived the idea for this piece and then assembled a diverse group of theatre makers to devise the show along with me. We were all a part of the interview, devising, and production process. Our aim was in sharing stories not commonly heard in order to critically engage audiences as to what kind of daily interactions they have with this very integral part of our community.
