Luna

Luna is a Latinx play for young audiences about a young girl, Soledad, whose parents are migrant farm workers in California. Because of the uncertainty of the migrant work lifestyle, Soledad is always moving to a new school and finds it hard to make friends. The only friend she can rely on is Luna, because she will always be present in the night sky as a steady confidant.

As the dramaturg, I worked with the direction team, actors, and education team to provide research and real-world context about issues in the play. This play was a part of the 2016/2017 season for The Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas at Austin. We toured this show to elementary and middle schools in Austin I.S.D. then ended the production in a weekend run on the UT campus. I worked closely with the director, Professor Roxanne Schroeder-Arce, to facilitate conversation around the larger themes of the play: migrant work, Latinx identity on stage, and struggles of friendship. This included the facilitation of a post-show discussion after every UT performance.
